How It All Began

DevEck’s cosplay journey started back in 2014, sparked by a simple invitation from friends to check out a local event. That moment turned out to be one of the best decisions of his life, launching a creative adventure that’s still going strong.

First Cosplay

His debut character? Ned Kelly—Australia’s infamous outlaw, reimagined with a sci-fi twist. Though there’s no photo of that first costume, the memory of the fun and spontaneity lives on. Fittingly, at that same event, DevEck met an artist working on a Ned Kelly comic featuring zombies, confirming that his choice was meant to be.

Cosplay Lineup

Here’s a look at DevEck’s cosplay evolution:

• Ned Kelly (Sci-fi Edition) – A tribute to an Aussie icon.
• ANH OG Stormtrooper – A childhood dream come true.
• Mr Death – A spooky favourite (apologies to the kids he scared!).
• Death Korps of Krieg Commissar – Because they’re “cool af.”
• Grey Knight Space Marine – Inspired by his first Warhammer 40K army.

Fan Favourite

While every cosplay holds a special place, DevEck’s Grey Knight Space Marine stands out as the fan favourite thanks to its massive scale and striking presence. This build wouldn’t have been possible without the inspiration and support from Becosplay, whose work lit the spark for this ambitious project.

Why Cosplay?

For DevEck, cosplay isn’t just about the costumes, it’s about the community. The friendships formed, the shared passion, and the joy of “talking shop” with fellow fans are what make the journey worthwhile. As he puts it:

“It wasn’t the destination, it was the friends I’ve met along the way.”
